In the fall of that year, he took a withdrawal card from the union to become Operations Manager of Robertson’s Hamilton Heavy Industry Division.
Seeing limited opportunities for further advancement with Robertson for the extended future Wayne left Robertson in 1981 and was involved as a minor partner establishing John Kenyon as a cladding contractor in southern Ontario and later as a full partner in Inscan Architectural Systems.

In 1994 Wayne moved to a position of National Sales Manager of Robertson while retaining the labour relations duties of the Construction Manager.
